The Printed Bird

This exhibition explores the history of bird imagery and ornithology through outstanding book plates produced through the fine art of printmaking. Drawing upon works in the collections of the Floyd County Library and the private collections of Raymond Graf and Albertus Gorman this will be a comprehensive survey of the great bird publications and artists like John James Audubon, Jacques Barraband, Edward Lear, and others who helped contribute to what we know about birds. The exhibition begins with the invention of the printing press in the 15th century and continues through the first quarter of the 20th century.
